The heart of the home is the kitchen; it seems to be the place everyone congregates no matter how big the party, it’s the first place people go when they come over, and it’s where you spend a majority of your time if time allows it. Your kitchen is the jewel of your home, and you want it to be both functional and stylish. How do you update your kitchen to reflect your style or today’s modern conveniences without breaking the bank, or making it stand out too much from the rest of the house?
Chances are you have a certain style/theme running through the rest of your house, and your kitchen reflects that in small ways with décor, towels and other items. Taking these elements into consideration when looking for inspiration will make certain you stay true to the rest ofyour house while still reflecting your personal style.
Also, it’s important to be aware of the layout of your kitchen to determine what you can and cannot ultimately do with it. Is it a Galley Kitchen or a U-Shaped Kitchen? Do you have an island, or a half wall like in a G-Shaped Kitchen? All of your new elements need to make sense in the style that’s already established. Sure, you could tear down walls, or add features, but in the end, there’s still a core style that you have to work with, so determine what you have, to know what you will be working with.
One of the most impacting style designs you will have in your kitchen is the backsplash. There are so many styles and designs to choose from, and choosing the right kind can be difficult. You may like the look of a type of tile, but does it match your cabinets? Your floors and countertop? Take the samples from each of these and put them together as if they are in your kitchen, meaning, layer them from floor to countertop to backsplash to cabinet. Are these colors and styles cohesive? If not, it’s easier to mix and match now than to put them in and see them already installed as a complete mess.
Speaking of floors, the flooring you choose is just as important as the backsplash when creating a new kitchen. The eyes tend to go straight (to see the backsplash) then travel down (looking at the floor). Choose a flooring that not only matches in color, it matches in design as well. Are you aiming for rustic? Classic? Modern? Contemporary? The floors tie the whole look together and give the new kitchen the ultimate in wow factor.
See our designers and ask for some examples in the theme you are heading towards to see what choices you have for floors. The design of your dream kitchen should be a pleasurable experience. We at Kruper Flooring give you that experience, plus a whole lot more.
